Summertime means kids at home time, which means the eventual “I’m bored.” To combat this, time to update our kits, to fun summer activity kits.

I like to make activity kits for my kids to help keep them entertained, especially when they are bored. I switch out the activities from time to time. Usually, I add some new dollar finds and sometimes look for things that have been pushed to the back of the closet.

In this Summer Activity Kit:

  • Puzzles – I picked up some simple 24-piece puzzles at Dollar Tree. Picked these because they are my kids’ favorite animals. And a fun solar system one from Ojo (discount code below).
  • “Hands-On —– Project” Books – I actually found 4 of these at my Dollar Tree, Hands-On Math, Art, Science, and Nature, but these books are great. Good artwork inside and really engaging.
  • Building Blocks – these were actually dupes of the Plus Plus Blocks, but I got mine in the dollar spot at Target. Trust me you want to pick up more than one set of these. Hashtag shaped to connect and build.
  • “5 Minute Quick Quizzes” – Grade-level brain teasers. I just pulled out older ones we hadn’t finished that were laying in the closet. But, they were originally bought at Target. With back-to-school stuff being out you might find these or newer versions out.
  • Award Stickers & Sheets – Since we’re back into our “Summer Reading Program” from Dollar Tree the sticker sheets and reward chart is perfect for keeping track of the kiddos’ reading and using the chart as bookmarks. We used to do per book now we are doing stickers for time increments as the kids are a little older.
  • Highlights “Valentine’s Hidden Pictures Puzzles to Highlight” – This is another recycled one for us, and even though it’s from Valentine’s seek and finds are always fun.
  • “Tell-A-Story” Cards – I don’t think Target carries these anymore, but they were a set of cards with photos. Kids can pick a certain amount of cards and make stories out of them. Great for the imagination and super cute. I highly recommend recording your littles as they tell you their stories! I linked “Storytelling cubes” as it works similarly, and we use both.
  • Books! – I added 2 more books, one “United States Park and Monuments” book and a Money Math book. I can’t remember if I found these at Target dollar spot or Dollar Tree, but both should are similar. Figured tie-in summer travel and peak their geography curiosity. The other book to reinforce money math as we don’t use as much cash these days so the book would be helpful.
